Hi everyone,

Need your help to compare this 2 Storage from FUJITSU and DELL because I have a customer asking me for a DELL storage product and I need to show him the potential of FUJITSU one.

Best Regard

Hi again mlegrafleitas.

Please find below some key points on why your customer should choose Fujitsu's ETERNUS DX100 S5 while comparing with SCv3020:

  • SCv3020 can give you a maximum of 1 PB raw capacity on around 222 drives, whereas with DX100 S5 you can have upto 4.4 PB of raw capacity. If scalability is something customer is looking at post system purchase, DX100 S5 will be a better fit given the room to grow.

  • 32Gb FC ports are available on DX100 S5 which are not available with SCv3020.

  • Biggest drive type available on DX100 S5 is 30.72 TB SSD, these details are not available for SCv3020.

  • DX100 S5 supports NAS capabilities whereas this is an optional feature with SCv3020 (available with additional FS8600 NAS Gateway). Not only native capabilities help system perform better, they also offer some savings in terms of licensing costs.

  • DX100 S5 supports extreme cache pool (upto 1.6TB) per array. This will help customer in cases where an additional performance boost might be required from the system given the applications / workloads run. However on the other hand cache expansion is supported in a federated cluster on SCv3020.

  • Automated tiering and automated quality of service (auto QoS) are both supported on DX100 S5 whereas there is no clarity on support of auto QoS on SCv3020.

  • With ETERNUS DX100 S5 data migration is not a problem, it can be done online and offline. Migration is controller based, no additional software is required and requires FC connectivity. Migration can be done across OS versions, generations and families, as long as data migration criteria’s are fulfilled. With SC series, migration from and amidst SC9000, SC7020, SC5020, SC4020, SCv3000 Series is supported. It also supports migration from PS series and MD series. However, none of the erstwhile EMC models are covered.

In a hybrid array it makes sense to have more than one tier of drives, that way you can move data across tiers and have benefits of performance and cost effectiveness from same array (place important and frequently accessed data on SSD’s which are costly and not so important and less frequently accessed data on SAS or NL-SAS drives which are less expensive when compared to SSDs). This concept is called tiering and when system is intuitive enough to sense the patterns and move data or can be tweaked to follow a pattern as per a template, the concept is called as automated tiering.
When there are more than a few applications/workloads are run on the system, system resources have to directed towards more demanding applications/workloads so that resource contention can be avoided. This concept is called quality of service. However, when system is initutive enough to sense this and do this on its own the concept is called automated quality of service.
It is important to understand both these concepts because when they are automated together they can ensure right data goes to right set of drive and overall is managed right (start to finish). This will bring better system performance, give whole lot of additional savings and will have a major saving on 24*7 data management efforts.

Thank you.

Very thanks,

Customer choice to go for DX100.

Have a question about DX100 S5 NAS capabilities: Does storage need additional configuration, license or hardware for use NAS or with basic configuration it can be used.

For example configuration for my customer is:

ET DX100S5 Base 2.5
* 10x DX1/200S5 HD SAS 1.2TB 10k 2.5 x1
* 2x DX100S5 Contr.x1 iSCSI 2Port 10GnoSFPx1
* 2x DX1/200S5 SFP+ 10G x2

Best regards

Hi again.

The mentioned hardware components are enough to activate and use the Unified functions of ETERNUS DX storage system.

The customer also needs to request the Unified upgrade license code (free of charge) by sending an email directly to storage-pm@fujitsu.com

Let's us know if you have further questions.

Thank you.

Hi Nuno,

Could you please help me to clarify the following:

It seems that the DX100 S5 system does not support deduplication function. Is that correct?

King Regards

Hi.

You're right. The Deduplication/Compression function is supported in the AF250 S3/AF650 S3, the DX200 S5, and the DX500 S5/DX600 S5.

Best regards.

Hi Nuno,

About unified function of DX100 S5 you said me the following:

My question is Does customer need an additional Ethernet host interface adapter for NAS features because the storage is configured just with iSCSI host interface adapter.

Kind regards
