Fujitsu Introduces Reference Architecture for Commvault HyperScale™ Software

Preventing data losses has never before been a more pressing issue than in recent years, with experts calling for a consistent digital transformation of the economy on an almost daily basis. To keep up with the rising demand for appropriate data protection, Fujitsu and its longtime technology partner have come up with a number of solutions, the youngest of which is our Reference Architecture for Commvault HyperScale™ Software.

One of the key challenges for companies that are in the process of digital transformation is to find novel approaches to tackling so-called classic infrastructure challenges, namely to implementing adequate architectures for backup and disaster recovery (DR). As it stands, existing networks with their plethora of dedicated servers and often ragtag mix of storage devices will eventually get the job done. However, quite often these infrastructures are highly complex and anything but easy to manage, not to mention costly – and rarely if ever flexible and responsive enough to satisfy the needs of users who've developed a taste for the simplicity and smoothness of cloud services and now want to bring them to their own organization.

Commvault's HyperScale™ Software was developed to address these issues. Consequently, it consolidates all roles that discrete servers perform in traditional architectures into a single, software-defined stack. The software can be deployed to multiple storage nodes, thus creating a massively addressable storage pool with built-in enterprise class data management capabilities. As a result, companies no longer need dedicated media servers, proprietary controller-based storage devices or cloud gateways; instead, they may clear out their server and storage fleets and reduce related costs dramatically.

With our Reference Architecture for Commvault HyperScale™ Software, we enable our customers to bring these benefits to their on-premises backup storage. Just like previous solutions, it provides Commvault's software with a highly reliable platform of powerful PRIMERGY industry-standard servers that offers complete data portability for seamless integration between the public cloud and on-premises environments, thereby achieving cloud-like agility, economics and service levels and helping IT departments build unified, easy-to-scale backup and recovery environments. The new reference architecture complements Fujitsu's wider portfolio of data protection appliance solutions, such as the ETERNUS CS200c and the Commvault HyperScale™ Appliance.

The Fujitsu Reference Architecture for Commvault HyperScale™ Software is designed for organizations that require greater storage capacity or better performance than can be reached using the conventional, appliance-based approach. Fujitsu uses pre-validated configurations that provide hardware sizes and models for Commvault HyperScale™ Software on a unique scale-out infrastructure. This reduces both the integration time and risk associated with multiple point solutions while injecting scalability as well as predictable economics and performance. Customers gain a fully-tested, easy-to-deploy data protection solution for backing up and archiving data in physical, virtual or cloud-based data centers.

Pricing and Availability
The new Fujitsu Reference Architecture for Commvault HyperScaleTM Software will be available to order in the EMEIA region from March 2018, either directly from Fujitsu or via distribution partners. Pricing varies according to system configuration and country.
