Fujitsu Introduces PRIMEFLEX for Red Hat OpenStack

Fujitsu's PRIMEFLEX family of infrastructure solutions just got a little bigger: together with our technology partner Red Hat, we developed an all-in-one platform that enables businesses to transform regular data centers into state-of-the-art cloud command and operation hubs.

For more than a decade, architecture concepts like cloud computing and business models like IaaS have shaped the debate about what future data centers should look like and how they should work. But while the 'cloudification' of services and infrastructures has long turned into a generally accepted goal even among conservative organizations, actual implementations seem to remain relatively scarce. One of the main reasons for this state of affairs is that despite the massive efforts that went into standardizing the basic technologies, only few platforms have emerged that offer all the capabilities needed to build, operate and manage private or public clouds. Probably the most successful among them is OpenStack, a global project originally founded by Rackspace and NASA, which is now managed by a non-profit industry association comprised of over 500 leading hard- and software vendors including Cisco, EMC, Intel, Oracle, and VMware. Fujitsu has been an active member of the OpenStack community for several years as well as a major contributor to the last three releases – Icehouse, Juno and Kilo – that were published since April 2014, a merit that helped us achieve Gold Member status on August 4 this year.

Since OpenStack is not only the most successful, but also the fastest-growing cloud platform around, it was only a matter of time before our PRIMEFLEX developers would try to build a package that meets the expectations of cloud-interested IT departments regarding performance, scalability, agility/flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. To achieve this as fast as possible, they joined forces with colleagues from our long-term technology partner Red Hat, which is also a Platinum Member of the OpenStack Foundation, to create a PRIMEFLEX solution package suited to their specific implementation of OpenStack. The result is PRIMEFLEX for Red Hat OpenStack, a reference architecture that helps customers build a converged infrastructure solution for OpenStack private cloud IaaS deployments. PRIMEFLEX for Red Hat OpenStack combines high-performance, energy-efficient Fujitsu servers and storage systems, the market-leading Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, one stop support and a comprehensive professional service portfolio – all in one single solution package. In other words, it's the quickest and most reliable way to deploy a highly flexible, open and cost-effective OpenStack private cloud IaaS platform. Customer benefits include:

  • A modular building block concept enabling customers to adapt configurations at their own pace
  • Optimized deployment services that reduce implementation risk and offer fast time to production while cutting infrastructure-related efforts and cost by up to 40%
  • One-stop shop support for recommended configurations
  • Integration into the overall OpenStack ecosystem supporting a customer's private, hybrid or multi-cloud approach
