Hi,
maybe someone could help me with a problem: A Fujitsu Lifebook E780 got a new harddisc and a reinstallation of Windows 7 from the supplied discs - first the one with the os itself, then the second with all the additional software (which also took a long time to install).

The computer runs fine, but it has a problem: despite being activated the Windows 7 update routine refuses to work and states that the service is not started. However in the services list it says that the service is active.

Thank you in advance for any hintful tips Smile

Hi,
after several attempts to solve the problem I reinstalled Windows 7, but this time without running the second cd which automatically installs all drivers and additional software. I downloaded the drivers from the website.

However.

In several ZIP files there were several kinds of drivers for different hardware although I entered the serial number of the notebook before. I understand that the Notebook have variations in hardware, but I couldn't figure out which applied to the one I was installing. I have no record of how the Lifebook was configured in the first place.

Now my question: is there a tool which tells me what kind of hardware is installed in the Lifebook so that I choose the right driver while installing it manually?

Hi HWG,

Could you please be a little more specific and provide customer data, product IDs etc.? We would then pass on those data to your local service desk so they can get in touch.

With best regards

Hi HWG,

We're back earlier this time Wink

To cure your troubles with the Win7 reinstall, please see this Knowledge Base article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us. There's also a link to a 'troubleshooter' at the top of the page that may solve the problem automatically.

Regarding drivers, you should try and install all relevant Fujitsu drivers and utilities using our DeskUpdate software, which is available for download at http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/DeskUpdate/Index.asp. If the Device Manager still shows uninstalled components after running DeskUpdate, switch to detailed view to find out the PCI Vendor ID. With the vendor ID determined, you can continue your search at the PCI Database (http://www.pcidatabase.com/) - they provide detailed information and helpful links.

With best regards

Hi,
some weeks ago I found a close problem with a Packard Bell notebook where we changed also the hard disk. In our case the problem arised when we try to start Windows Live Mail. It showed a supposed calendar problem and refused to open. I get mad with that but I found a solution that maybe could help you cause they tell that the problem could also be found with problems on windows updates or a couple of other things. The real problem was on the SATA controller and some HDs with more than 640GB. Strange but true. Just need to update Intel RAID AHCI controller. In our case Packard Bell only had the driver needed for the original capacity so we went directly to intel. Go into Intel webpage (http://www.intel.com/p/es_XL/support) and let them check for updates. In our case the driver was: RST_11.6.0.1030_RAID_AHCI_driver_GUI_CLI_2012.10.11
Surely you will spend half an hour and at least you will have newer updates and maybe, just maybe, you will solve the problem. Hope that helps you.
Of course, as previous said by tcbkr Fujitsu Desktop Update tool it's the tool for updating drivers on any laptop o desktop and you can download directly from Fujitsu support download webpage. Very, very useful.
