FUJITSU Server PRIMEQUEST 3800B: Optimized for Business-Critical Workloads

Fujitsu's PRIMEQUEST servers are targeted at business and mission-critical computing. They offer highest availability and business continuity as well as highest performance combined with a new operational efficiency and truly open standards. The newest addition to the PRIMEQUEST range is the 3800B that has been designed to handle demanding corporate databases, in-memory solutions and business-critical applications.

The FUJITSU Server PRIMEQUEST 3800B has been re-designed from the ground up and features an improved design to reduce datacenter costs. Its simplified design of components and the strengthened cooling performance is packaged in a newly developed, compact and cost-efficient 5U form factor. The previous generation – in comparison – had been in a 10U housing.

As an 8-socket rack server, the FUJITSU Server PRIMEQUEST 3800B offers uncompromising performance, reliability, as well as optimized economics for business-critical workloads. Featuring the latest Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family with up to 28 cores per processor and fastest available DDR4 memory modules with 12TB total capacity, the PRIMEQUEST 3800B improves performance for in-memory databases such as SAP HANA® and real-time data analytics.

The dynamic platform of this FUJITSU Server allows for economic scaling from 2 to 8 sockets. In addition, the high-performance DDR4 memory architecture with 2666 MHz clock rate and 96 DIMM sockets facilitate huge memory capacities of up to 12TB.

Improved and Simplified Architecture for Lower TCO
Its new, simplified architecture also eliminates complexities of the connections between system boards and PCIe slots and converges standard Ethernet ports into only one LAN management unit. Together with the smaller form factor, lower acquisition costs and the use of energy-efficient components, the improved and simplified architecture also leads altogether to a significantly lower TCO.

What else is of importance? Well, the advanced RAS features in CPUs and memories have been built into the PRIMEQUEST 3800B in order to enable advanced actions for error circumvention. In addition to that, it is assisted by the enterprise x86 operating systems to increase system availability. Almost all of its components are fully redundant and make use of features like memory mirroring or CPU multiplexing. RAID storage solutions provide additional reliability to data warehousing. Furthermore, online firmware updates lead to increased system uptime. Each PRIMEQUEST system is thoroughly tested for high quality and extensive resilience features before shipping.

Resilient Architecture, Improved Management and Protection
Due to its resilient architecture, the PRIMEQUEST 3800B still continues operation even if hardware problems are detected. Extra detection mechanisms permit an early correction or elimination of hardware problems at a very early stage. Thus, faulty parts can be isolated and repaired, while the system remains active. The newly designed housing allows easy replacement of components from the front or the rear of the chassis with no need to remove the server from the rack. Thanks to the concept of PCI cassettes, expansion cards are easily removed or attached. Modular fans and I/O units provide comparable convenience. These features once again support minimizing planned as well as unplanned downtimes while concurrently lowering the time and cost requirements of necessary maintenance procedures.

Above all this, the FUJITSU Server PRIMEQUEST 3800B's improved and extended Integrated Remote Management Controller iRMC S5 simplifies operations as well as management, it helps to increase productivity and reduces vulnerabilities. The included BIOS Guard 2.0 feature protects the system from malicious modifications of its firmware components. Only trusted BIOS updates that are affirmed with a vendor-specific signature are actually applied to the system.
