Following first rumors that spread over the weekend, the PC and server market leader has officially announced plans to separate into two public companies. The idea behind the move is to disconnect the company's PC and printer divisions from its server, storage, networking, software and services business in order to "provide each new company with the focus, financial resources and flexibility to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics while generating long-term value for shareholders."

Hitachi Global Storage Technology (HGST) is expanding its "Enterprise Capacity" series of HDDs with a new 8 TB drive that follows the 6 TB model launched earlier this year. In addition, the company announced the "world's first data center-class 10TB HDD for cloud-to-cold storage applications."

The Linux Foundation has launched a new two-level Linux training and certification program for early-career and engineer-level systems administrators, in an effort to expand the global Linux talent pool. All exams are to be taken online and shall test the "real-world skills" of the participants who – if successful – may walk away with the title of a Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) and Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE), respectively.
