Protecting Customer Environments with Fujitsu PalmSecure™ ID Login

Over the past 12 months, 93% of large corporations and 87% of SMEs reported they fell victim to security breaches and cyber attacks. Worse yet, in 60% of all cases the adversaries gained up to nine months of free access to confidential, sensitive information before someone spotted their activities. Among the most favorite targets of criminal hackers and state-sponsored spies are passwords and other user credentials.

Given this hostile environment, more and more organizations have realized that "password protection" will not work as desired in far too many cases. Consequently, they have started to roll out more effective defense mechanisms, such as two- or multi-factor authentication involving voice or face recognition, fingerprint readers or iris scans. Oftentimes, these new mechanisms will work just fine. However, some of the above-named technologies have not yet matured enough that one would consider them fit enough to protect company resources: In its current state of development, face recognition will produce false acceptance rates of up to 1.3% and false rejection rates that are twice as high – too much for companies and authorities with three-digit and higher headcounts. But even the more sophisticated solutions may occasionally slip up, especially if users' physical features change or hardware performance deteriorates over time. Last not least, managing user credentials typically puts a massive burden on IT administrators.

So does this mean secure authentication is impossible? Thankfully, no. With PalmSecure™ ID Login and Workplace Protect AD, Fujitsu has solutions in place that practically eliminate authentication errors and easily blend into existing Active Directory environments. How these solutions work and what organizations can hope to achieve in realistic scenarios was the topic of a recent lecture on Fujitsu's SELECT Academy. An audio recording of the session is now available as SELECT Webcast from FiOLA – to learn more, just click on the link below and login with your user ID:

Authentication solutions and IT security will also be a hot topic at this year's Fujitsu Forum, which will be held at the International Congress Center Munich (ICM) on November 8 and 9, 2017. Please visit our Forum webpage for more information.
