Please let me know the difference between Business Critical HDD and NAS HDD as mentioned in Last Order Row on the sheet on the below link.!!

BC HDD are designed to run 24/7 with high loads - as is typical for business servers.

the NAS HDDs are not. as a matter of fact, checking the qnap website (Celvin is a qnap inside) it becomes clear that they even support desktop HDDs.

normally, desktop HDDs are designed to run 8/5, at much lower loads than servers, since on a client only one user is active at any time, whereas servers may need to server 100's or 1000's of users simultaneously.

that is why BC disks have a premium price.

simply put: if you run a client HDD as hard as a server HDD, it will (statistically) fail 3x as frequently, increasing the risk of dataloss.

the reason the celvins use "normal" HDDs is because they are simply not powerful enough to match "real" servers for many, many users. that automatically keeps the load on the disks low, keeping the failure rates low.

Hi both,
CELVIN units could be ordered with a couple of HDs models, NAS and BC as Aerial32 told. That had a big sense when there where no concret NAS design hard disks availaible so CELVIN units installed somekind of Seagate HDs which I can tell that had some tendency to fail with time. So the question was HD or BC HD. Nowadays, CELVIN NAS units installs Western Digital Caviar Red HDs with an optimized firmware (at least that's what Fujitsu tells).
As you could check on Western Digital webpage that kind of HDs (WD Red) are specially designed for NAS equipments until 8 HDs and are thought for 24x7 usage. My experience is that right now, with WD Red HDs series we've got less fails than before.
So maybe in the past between no special dessigned HDs for 24x7 usage and BC that could be something to really think about. My personal opnion, it's that right now that difference has few sense. Surely BC have better performance but in a CELVIN unit the bottle neck it's on CPUs and specially on the network connection not on the HD performance and both kind of HDs are quite good enough, so you will get few gain for a quite big amount of money. Evenmore, even a WD Caviar Red HD has 5 years support, once it's installed on a CELVIN unit by Fujitsu you only gets the same warranty as the unit. So, think about asking for a Support Package with your unit, and the maximum it's just 3 years. The good new it's that it could be Next Business Day 9x5 or 4 hours 9x5 time response, something you will not get buying the HD elsewhere. So believe me, ask for the Support Package, it's no so expensive and don't forget to configure email alerts on fails.
I don't have info for the concret BC HD that it's already installing Fujitsu on Celvin units although I have search it for a long time. Anyway I don't believe that nowadays the BC usage will overcome on a big improvement on units performance or durability. If you really need performance accessing the data you will need to jump to an Eternus cabin where you will find faster connection interfaces.
That's my personal opinion as a CELVIN user, which I recommened for SMB scenarios. We've got nearly ten different units on several customers running 24x7 with few problems.
