Starting tomorrow, a new licensing scheme will be implemented for the activation of iRMC S4-based ServerView options on PRIMERGY servers. License keys are now dedicated to a specific PRIMERGY system in a so-called "node-locked license." The new licensing scheme is applied to iRMC S4 Advanced Pack license keys ordered from November 1 as well as to all future license keys for iRMC S4-based ServerView options.

In a somewhat surprising move, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison gave up his CEO position on Thursday after 37 years at the helm, exchanging it for the new tasks of Executive Chairman (EC) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Splitting CEO responsibilities between the two of them, former co-presidents Safra Catz and Mark Hurd will take over, both taking the CEO title proper. Jeff Henley, who was EC for the last 10 years, will remain on the Board as Vice Chairman.

The booming IT gadgets market casts a huge environmental shadow. According to the Greenpeace study "Green Gadgets: Designing the Future," their production remains "inherently unsustainable" because it is both highly energy- and CO2-intensive – a problem that is further exacerbated through the use of considerable amounts of dirty energy and toxic substances as well as the dwindling life span of electronic goods that in turn creates mountains of e-waste. In other words, Greenpeace believes the IT industry still pursues a largely unsustainable business model, although the study concedes that there has been substantial progress in some areas.

The Linux Foundation has launched a new two-level Linux training and certification program for early-career and engineer-level systems administrators, in an effort to expand the global Linux talent pool. All exams are to be taken online and shall test the "real-world skills" of the participants who – if successful – may walk away with the title of a Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) and Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE), respectively.
