Tutorial Session about Performance Debugging on VMware vSphere

Every administrator who's ever had to deal with performance issues on a VMware stack knows how tough it can be to determine where the root of the problem lies: is it in the VM itself or in the network layer? Or maybe something is wrong with the storage or the hypervisor? The possibilities often seem endless.

To help admins solve these issues, VMware has recently published a hands-on tutorial "Chasing Performance: Understand, Troubleshoot and Optimize Workload Performance on vSphere Platform" (PDF). Just like the title indicates, this presentation showcases a systematic approach to fix performance problems using tools like esxtop as well as vSCSI and Net stats on a VMware stack. The tutorial also talks about some very useful optimizations and performance best practices.

The presentation is available either directly via the above link or from VMware's VROOM! Blog.
