Here’s to a Peaceful and Prosperous 2018!

As the festive season slowly draws to its close, so does a year that has been marked by what future historians will most likely identify as 'tectonic shifts.' Whether in business, politics or society in general, old alliances, norms and hierarchies we used to take for granted have been subjected to massive challenges, which sometimes border on deconstruction, as may be best exemplified by Brexit negotiations and the #MeToo campaign.

As always, these challenges have had – and will continue to have – a substantial impact on both the work and the bottom line of the ICT industry. Of course, nobody can tell in advance what exactly the next twelve months may bring. Then again, you don't need to be one of Philip K. Dick's precogs to realize that 2018 might become a year in which we not only have to explore and refine the workings of AI and deep learning, but also to defend the technical and legal concepts and standards that formed the very basis of our industry's success in the past two and a half decades, such as net neutrality, a free flow of information and regulatory frameworks with built-in privacy protection. Both Fujitsu and the TechCommunity team remain committed to these goals as key elements in our conception of human-centric innovation – and would very much enjoy working towards them with you in the weeks and months to come.

The above reflections definitely turned out a bit gloomier than the usual year-end piece. However, it certainly wasn't our intention to cast a demoralizing shadow – all the more since your participation in all TechCommunity activities has been such a gratifying experience for the entire team. With that we'd like to thank you for a marvelous year, and wish you all a peaceful and prosperous 2018!

We'll be back with fresh news and stories by January 8!
